BASICS / PITCH
Voice pitch and speed: why they change together
Raising pitch here speeds a clip up; lowering it slows the clip down. This is a deliberate, simple effect. If your voice line must keep exactly the same timing, leave pitch at zero and use one of the texture presets.
Try it in the voice changerWhat one octave does
Pitch is measured in semitones on the control. Twelve semitones make one octave. At +12, playback runs at twice the original speed and the source portion lasts half as long. At -12, playback runs at half speed and the source portion lasts twice as long.
For a two-second 440 Hz test tone, +12 gives approximately one second at 880 Hz. At -12, it gives approximately four seconds at 220 Hz. These are checkable signal relationships, not promises about how a person will perceive a changed speaking voice.
Start smaller with speech
Try +3 or -3 before jumping an octave. A small change can create a character without making the line hard to follow. The Deep and Chipmunk presets are starting points for this kind of effect.
Listen to the same phrase at the same volume. A high voice also becomes faster and its pauses become shorter. A deep voice becomes slower. If either setting makes the delivery feel wrong, move closer to zero.
Pitch alone is not a different speaker
A person’s voice includes resonance, articulation, rhythm and other features. Moving pitch up does not reliably produce a natural female voice; moving it down does not reliably produce a natural male voice. This studio makes playful effects and does not clone an identity.
Pitch shifting while preserving time, or changing vocal formants separately, takes different processing. Those controls are not part of this version. Do not use the tool as a guarantee of anonymity: familiar phrasing and other cues can remain recognizable.
Keep a clip in sync
For an animation or an existing video, leave pitch at zero if the line already matches the action. Robot, Telephone, Bitcrusher and Monster can change texture without changing the speed when pitch is zero. Echo adds a tail after the source ends.
If you change pitch intentionally, recheck the imported WAV on your editor’s timeline. Leave enough room after an Echo clip for the repeats. You may need to move the next line or trim the tail in the editor.
Make comparisons without losing the original
Choose a preset, adjust pitch, and press Apply effect. The original player remains unchanged, making an A/B comparison possible. Export a version you like before switching to another preset.
A recipe link preserves the settings and can be used on another recording. It does not include the voice, promise the same subjective result, or preserve your work after the tab closes. Keep the original source and finished WAV wherever you normally store your project files.
