TEXTURE / LO-FI
Make a crunchy bitcrusher voice effect
Choose Bitcrusher for a rough, crunchy digital voice. Start with the preset, listen to the result, and raise intensity gradually. If the words become hard to follow, bring some original sound back with the mix control.
Try it in the voice changerKnow which kind of low quality you want
Bitcrushing reduces the precision of a digital signal. Holding a sample for longer adds another rough edge. Together they can produce the brittle, stepped sound people associate with old games or heavily compressed memes.
That is different from making a file smaller. Exporting a tiny MP3 can add compression artifacts, but it does not give you the same controls or guarantee the same texture. The result here is still a normal WAV file that contains an intentionally degraded sound.
Use the same short phrase for every comparison
Choose a clear clip under ten seconds for your first attempts. Apply the default Bitcrusher preset and compare the original and result. Try a phrase with sustained vowels and short consonants so you hear both the texture and the loss of intelligibility.
Increase intensity by ten or twenty points, then apply again. The control reduces bit precision and holds samples longer together. They are not independent controls in this studio. If you need exact bit depth and sample-hold values, a dedicated audio editor gives you more control.
Use mix when intensity goes too far
A strong effect can turn quiet speech into a nearly flat or broken signal. Rather than making every setting more extreme, lower Effect mix. This combines the degraded version with part of the original, helping words survive the texture.
Keep pitch at zero during this comparison. Once you like the crunch, try a small pitch change as a separate step. Pitch and speed are linked, so your output may become shorter or longer.
Use references as a direction, not a guarantee
A May 2026 editing question asked how to reproduce a specific crunchy meme voice. Another thread asked about Flipnote audio. Both discussions mention bitcrushing, but the source voices, playback chain and additional effects can differ.
The same recipe applied to two people will sound different. This tool does not recreate a specific device codec or promise an exact match to a video. Start from the texture you can hear, then decide whether the result works in your own project.
Keep the source and finish the clip
Play the output at a comfortable volume. Intentional degradation can be tiring to listen to, especially with loud music. Check the quietest words, the start and the end before downloading.
Export the WAV and place it in your editor. Keep the original file too: processing a heavily crushed export again cannot recover detail that was removed. While this tab remains open, switching presets and changing controls always starts from your original input.
