CHARACTER / METALLIC

Make a robot voice effect

Start with the Robot preset, keep pitch at zero, and apply it to a short, clearly spoken line. You should hear a metallic texture while the words and clip length stay recognizable.

Try it in the voice changer

Record a line that gives the effect room

Use five to ten seconds of speech without background music. Leave a small pause between phrases. A sentence with both vowels and sharp consonants is more useful than a long continuous vowel: it helps you notice when the effect makes words harder to understand.

Speak at a normal, comfortable level. A distorted source stays distorted after processing. If the recording already crackles, record another take a little farther from the microphone before adjusting the effect.

Start with the preset, then change one control

Choose Robot and press Apply effect. Listen to the original player first, then the processed player. Robot adds a repeating modulation to the audio. The intensity control changes how fast that pulse repeats; it is not a volume control.

Try intensity at 30, then 60, with the same source. Keep the version you prefer. Lower Effect mix if the metallic texture covers consonants or makes quiet words disappear. At 0% mix you hear the dry signal; at 100% you hear only the processed signal. Pitch remains a separate control.

Make it small, large, or distant

A positive pitch setting produces a smaller, faster character. A negative setting produces a lower, slower character. This studio links pitch and playback speed, so changing pitch also changes the duration. Leave pitch at zero if the line must fit the timing of a video.

For a distant speaker, try the Telephone preset instead. Presets are alternatives here: selecting a new one resets its starting controls. They do not stack. If you want to compare two effects, download one version before switching.

Check the exported take

Play the result from beginning to end. Check for cut-off words and distracting loudness changes, then download the WAV. Import it into your video editor or soundboard and check it against the other sounds in that project. A file that plays successfully can still be the wrong artistic choice.

A recipe link restores the control settings for another person. It does not contain the source or generated audio. Send your WAV separately if you want someone to hear the exact same take.

What a robot preset does not promise

The effect does not create spoken words, imitate a particular performer or clone a fictional character. It processes the voice you supply. Your delivery and phrasing still matter. It also does not become a live microphone for a game or call; use the exported clip where audio files are accepted.
